Hail is large balls of ice that are made of cold ice crystals and wind. They can come in different shapes and sizes and are
known as hailstones. They can happen at any time of the year and not just in the winter. Did you ever wonder how hail is made? |
The process begins with ice crystals forming inside of storm clouds. As they fall down towards the ground the wind pushes them back into the clouds. They keep getting bigger and bigger until they are too heavy for the wind to push back up.
That is when they fall to the ground as big balls of ice. Hailstones can be very
dangerous! The bigger the pieces of hail are, the faster they fall. The faster they fall, the more damage they can do to houses, cars, animals, people, and land. |
