The ocean is one large body of salt water! The ocean is divided into five major oceans: the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Arctic Ocean, and the Southern Ocean. The five oceans connect to each other and form the worlds largest landform. Over 71% of the earth is covered by oceans.
The ocean formed hundreds of millions of years ago. Before there was life on earth, the planet was going through all kinds of transformations. Different gases mix together and formed water. The water then formed into the oceans. The underwater landscape is constantly changing and is home to many different types of landforms. Mountains, volcanoes, trenches, and guyots can be all found beneath the ocean surface. The deepest part of the ocean is known as the Marianna trench. It is found in the depths of the Pacific Ocean. The longest mountain range found on the planet is located in the Atlantic Ocean. It's called the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. |
