EGG:
The life cycle of a penguin starts as an egg. The female penguin lays one or two eggs. The female will then give her egg to the male penguin. He will keep the egg warm or incubate it by sitting on the egg. The female penguin goes in search of food and when she comes back, they will switch roles. The penguin species are unique because both males and females take care of the young. |
HATCHLING:
The eggs take about three days to hatch. When the hatchling is born it will call out and the parents will learn to recognise the voice. The hatchling does not have waterproof fur and must stay on land. The females feed their babies by regurgitating into their mouth. This means they feed them food that was already swallowed. They keep warm by staying close to their parents or other penguins. |
